So lets imagine that you are now an inpatient and have had your liposuction in Liverpool, Manchester or nearby. Yesterday we looked at exactly what happens during the Liposuction procedure. Today’s blog will look at the recovery and what happens immediately after surgery: As well as what to expect in the weeks after.
To help minimise swelling and to help with bruising, you usually will be asked to wear an elasticated support corset or compression bandages. Usually you will need to wear this for several weeks after the procedure to aid healing, although it can be removed when bathing or in the shower. Immediately after you have had your surgery you may be given antibiotics to help reduce any risks of infection. Mild painkillers are often advised to help reduce any discomfort and to help reduce any swelling.
After you have had surgery it is usually advised that you do not drive for between 1 and 2 weeks. The time you will need off work depends on the size of the area that was treated and what job you do. If it was a small area and you have a less demanding job you may be able to return to work within a few days: Whereas if you perform a much more active job, or the area treated was much larger, you may need 10 days or more off work.
About a week after you have had liposuction in Liverpool, Manchester or nearby, you would need to go back to have your stitches removed. Unless dissolvable stitches have been used in which case they will disappear by themselves.
A common question I get asked is: “How soon will I be able to return to my hobbies such as playing sports or other strenuous activities after having liposuction?” Although it does depend on the individual and the size of the area that they have had treated; most patients are usually able to resume strenuous exercise within 4 to 6 weeks of having the surgery.
After you have had your liposuction you may experience a few side effects whilst your body heals and recovers. The most common side effect is some localised swelling and bruising that may take up to 6 months to completely subside. Any numbness you feel is usually nothing to worry about and should disappear in 6 to 8 weeks. You should expect some inflammation of the treated areas and there will be scarring present that should fade in time. Sometimes fluid may ooze from the liposuction cut marks and if the legs or ankles were treated then you may experience swollen ankles until healing takes place.
It may take up to 6 months for the swelling to completely disappear, meaning it may take this long for you to fully see the results of the procedure.
