Just What Should You Expect After a Breast Reduction?

So yesterday we looked at the popular procedure – a breast reduction in Liverpool, Manchester, Newton le Willows or Bolton. If you are unsure whether this is the right procedure for you and have not read our earlier entry, then I recommend you go there first.  Today we are going to look at what happens next and what to expect after you have had this very popular procedure.

When you wake up from surgery after having a breast reduction,  you will usually find that you have dressings attached to your breasts and possibly some plastic tubing attached to help drain any blood away. Depending on the individual you may be asked to remain in hospital for 1 to 2 days until the tubing is removed and you are allowed to go home. You will need someone to drive you home from the hospital. You may experience a little pain for several days afterwards and it is recommended you take painkillers to help reduce the discomfort. Most women who have breast reduction surgery find that their breasts are swollen after surgery and feel tender and lumpy.

To aid healing you may be advised to wear a special sports bra or 24 hours a day after you have had your breast reduction surgery.  This could be as long as 3 months after the initial operation has taken place.  You will be required to return to have your stitches removed between one and two weeks after surgery, depending on how fast your individual healing takes place. If you have had dissolvable stitches then you will not have to have these removed and they will disappear naturally as your wounds heal.

If you have a breast reduction you will have to take time off work immediately after the procedure is done. The amount of time that is taken off depends on the individual. If in a less demanding job then you may be ok to return after a week whereas if you perform a much more demanding role it may be two or more weeks before you can resume your normal working activities. It is advised that you refrain from driving for 2 to 3 weeks after your breast reduction surgery.

If you are considering a breast reduction in Liverpool, Manchester or nearby then you will probably be wanting to know how long it would be before you can resume normal activities, including strenuous exercise, after the procedure has taken place?  It is advised that any stretching, heavy lifting or otherwise strenuous activities are avoided for 4 to 6 weeks after your surgery has been done.

Expect to have sore breasts for several weeks after your breast reduction surgery has taken place.  Your scarring will likely be quite red and angry for the first 6 to 8 weeks but should then begin to fade and become less noticeable over time.  The final result from your breast reduction would not be apparent until the swelling has completely subsided therefore could be several months after your surgery has taken place.
